These Maasai images are an intermixed selection from our two trips to Northern Tanzania. In 2008 we visited a Boma in the Salai Plain in the shadow of the active volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai. Our safari company, "Amazing Tanzania" enjoyed a unique several year relationship with Maasai in the area. They exchanged employment of local guides and financial support of the local school for the opportunity to set up a tent camp near-by and to visit and photograph in the Boma. We felt warmly received and welcome. The 2010 visit to a different Boma near the Nogorngora Crater seemed to be more of a commercial venture. Our safari leader had visited before and they did welcome her warmly. The Maasai provided dance demonstrations, an opportunity to interact with the children, and the photography opportunities were terrific. But other tour groups arrived, we felt somewhat pressured to purchase crafts, and the overall experience seemed less genuine than the 2008 opportunity.
